Connon played junior football for both Carlton and Richmond before signing for his home town club, Aberdeen, in 1919 He had already “guested” for them during WW1 as he served with the Royal Artillery based in the Granite City. In fact he netted five goals in just seven wartime appearances.

At the end of his career he took up a position working as an insurance agency superintendent for the Royal Insurance Company. His son, Bill Connon (1922-2000), was a Rugby Union player for Aberdeen from 1940 to 1950 and became President of the Scottish Rugby Union.
